EURO 2012: test on the threshold of Bordeaux

On Thursday, September 18 the fourth meeting of the EURO 2012 Supervisory Committee was held in headquarters of UEFA. The first persons of the European soccer union, FFU president Grygoriy Surkis, vice-prime minister of Ukraine Ivan Vasyunyk and a chairman of executive management of Euro-2012 Ivan Fedorenko took part in the meeting. This event preceded the meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee which will accept a final decision as to hosting of EURO 2012 final part by Ukraine and Poland.

Guarantees of Ukraine
At the beginning of the meeting UEFA General Secretary David Taylor appealed to Ivan Vasyunyk with suggestion to provide the European football union with information of political situation in Ukraine. According to Taylor, guidance of UEFA would like to avoid political risks in the context of implementation of guarantees and obligations of Ukrainian power before UEFA. A vice-prime minister declared in reply that EURO 2012 became almost the first project in the history of Ukraine which united all political forces. That’s why he expressed certitude that a political situation would not influence the preparation to EURO 2012 final part and governmental obligations which Ukraine undertook before UEFA.

Common achievement
A governmental official marked also that for the first time Ukrainian delegation arrived with concrete achievements. There is a progress on all infrastructural objects especially on the main stadium of the country Kyiv National Sport Complex Olympiyskiy. «This result is a general achievement got due to a close collaboration with the experts of FFU and UEFA» − Ivan Vasyunyk said.

Considerable progress
The experts of UEFA acceded to the estimations of vice-prime and marked substantial progress in preparation of Olympiyskiy arena. For today the main requirements of UEFA in relation to this EURO 2012 object are executed. At the same time they mark that the reconstruction of the main foootball arena must begin in 2008 year in order to be completed in 2010.

Final decision
UEFA will continue monitoring the realization of concrete projects connected with  EURO 2012 turning intent attention on realization of all that Ukraine pledged to carry out to the football final. Final decision in relation to the prospect of subsequent participation of Ukraine and Poland in EURO 2012 the UEFA Executive Committee will cast on September 25-26 in Bordeaux.
